SHIELDAIG
The village sits on the shore of Loch Shieldaig - a sea loch which opens onto Loch Torridon and then out to the Minch. Opposite the village is Shieldaig Island, a bird sanctuary which is owned by the National Trust for Scotland on which Sea Eagles have nested in recent years. The village has a Hotel and Bar. There are also two shops selling necesseties and local seafood.

SURROUNDING AREA
The area is ideal for walking, boating and fishing. Much of the Torridon Mountains is owned by the National Trust for Scotland and their Visitors Centre at Torridon is a good source of information about the area and its wildlife. The Ranger Service based there offers guided walks in July and August (booking essential). The Torridon Hotel also offers outdoor activities that can be booked by non-residents.

The villages of Lochcarron, Applecross, Kinlochewe and Gairloch are within easy reach and the island of Skye is only about an hours drive.
