There are frequent Intercity rail services from London, Glasgow and Edinburgh to Inverness. This includes a night sleeper service which leaves London Euston at approximately 9pm and arrives in Inverness at 8am the following morning. The return journey runs to similar timings in the opposite direction.
Car rentals can be picked up at Inverness Station - about 1.5 hours drive to the cottage.
There are 4 trains daily Monday to Saturday (2 trains on Sundays in summer but only 1 on Sundays in winter) in each direction between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh calling at Achnasheen (27 miles/40minutes drive from Shieldaig) or Strathcarron Stations (19 miles/40 minutes from Shieldaig).

There is a local minibus service to Strathcarron Station run by DMK Motors which connects with the 2 morning trains from Inverness and the 12:45 to Inverness. It leaves Shieldaig bus shelter at 11.40 daily ( Monday to Saturday) and returns at about 13:30. It is thus possible to reach the cottage by public transport from London - night sleeper to Inverness - train to Strathcarron and then mini-bus - we know it works 'cos we've done it!!
